The material of choice for beverage cans

ArcelorMittal at Canadean

22 - 23 September 2015, London (UK)

Canadean is the event for Innovation in Non-Alcoholic Beverages that took place on September 22 & 23, 2015 in London, UK. In addition to a presence at this event, ArcelorMittal was given the opportunity to speak to a large audience of 100 guests on the subject of how steel cans bring value to the beverage industry.

ArcelorMittal is the worldwide leading supplier of steel for packaging. Our comprehensive product portfolio includes advanced steel solutions for all packaging segments:

  • easy open and standard ends
  • ultra-thin gauges for bodies
  • crown corks or caps
  • DWI cans
  • tabstock
  • and microwavable

Innovation is at the core of ArcelorMittal’s business, we are technology leaders in the development of lightweight high-strength steels.

The 2020 generation of steel cans for beverages is 0.18 mm steel gauge for 18 gram can, an impressive reduction of 15% in thickness, after a 40% weight decrease already achieved in the last 30 years, and we are still far from the limit. Steel can is the green, strong and light solution for packaging in general and for beverage cans in particular.

ArcelorMittal firmly believes that steel is the best solution for beverage packaging. As the most recycled packaging material (75% recycling rate in 2013), steel supports all the actors in the industry to meet environmental regulations and business targets, as well as customers’ expectations.

The video “Preserving, a way of life”, presented for the first time during the conference, shows ArcelorMittal‘s lead in innovation and the close partnership with can makers.  It illustrates steel as an innovative and sustainable material, perfect for product differentiation, thus the material of choice for the packaging industry.
